The East-West Gathering book of prose poems and songs was written by Francis Brabazon after a four day Darshan gathering of five thousand, held by Meher Baba at Guruprasad Palace in Poona and is a “song-story of an event unique in history, yet it is an event for which mankind has long prayed and worked — The coming together of people from many parts of the world in the Name of Love and Truth” celebrated from the first of November 1962.

The original melodies, mostly traditional, were used by Francis Brabazon due to having to write the book, The East-West Gathering, so quickly at the request of Beloved Meher Baba. These twenty-nine songs were sung to Meher Baba when He and the mandali returned to Meherazad. They were presented and sung to Him in batches of four until Baba approved each one to go into the finished book.
